Varsity Head Coach: Sameer Bhatt
Years Coaching: 10
Years at Nogales: 4

Coach Bhatt began his coaching career at his alma mater, Bonita High School, after graduating in 2008. Coach Bhatt coached two highly successful seasons at Bonita High School as the Boys’ Freshmen Basketball Assistant Coach; in addition to coaching at Rancho Cucamonga High School and Baldwin Park High School. At Baldwin Park High School, Coach Bhatt was the Head Coach of the Junior-Varsity Boys’ Basketball team – a season which he acknowledges as “one of his most rewarding yet.” His J.V. team finished with a 13-12 record, however he states that “I have never coached a group of kids that had bonded together so well. They gave it everything they had – in the classroom, off the court as friends, and as teammates on the basketball court. I could not have asked for anything more – it was just a great experience that helped me grow as a man.”

Following Coach Bhatt’s time at Baldwin Park, he accepted the Head Coaching position for the Junior-Varsity Boys’ Basketball team at Chino Hills High School in March of 2012. In his first season as the J.V. Head Coach, Coach Bhatt’s team amassed a 20-3 record, finishing 10-0 in Sierra League play for an undefeated Sierra League Championship. His time as a Varsity Assistant Coach also saw success, with the varsity team finishing 24-5, 10-0 in Sierra League play. The following season, 2013-2014, Coach Bhatt’s J.V. team finished with an 18-8 record, finishing second place (7-3) in a competitive Sierra League. His time as a Varsity Assistant during that same period was the most successful season in Chino Hills Basketball history to that point; as the varsity team finished 29-6, 10-0 in league, and finished second place in the CIF-SS Open Division; with a Quarter-finals appearance in the CIF Division 1 State Finals.

Coach Bhatt accepted the Varsity Boys’ Basketball Head Coaching position at Nogales High School in June of 2014. His vision is to rebuild Nogales High School into an area powerhouse once more. This vision does not extend exclusively onto the basketball court, as the program will be built from a foundation of academic excellence, work ethic, discipline, strong values and unity. Coach Bhatt is looking forward to cultivating the growth of the Nogales High School name, as we usher in a new era of achievement! During the 2016-2017 season; Nogales Basketball qualified for its first CIF-SS Playoff Berth since the 2013-2014 season. In addition, the Varsity team advanced to the next round of the CIF-SS Playoffs, after winning their first playoff game in over 5 years (beating Big Bear High School in the opening round of the CIF-SS Playoffs).

During the 2017-2018 season, Nogales Boys’ Basketball made program history; winning its first ever CIF-SS CHAMPIONSHIP. After four years of navigation through both peaks and valleys, persistence, and display of resilience, the Nogales Varsity Boys’ Basketball team reached the pinnacle of high school sports. The Nogales Basketball program has built itself upon a strong foundation of unity and continues to build upon its success daily! What an exciting time to be a NOBLE.
